4k video editing is the future and you may think it all about purchasing more and more of RAM and bigger hard drives but as the case may be, even if you stick 3000gb of RAM to your PC without upgrading on other most important components, you still may not be able to edit 4k footages which is why we have outline the important aspect you should invest your money wisely on.

The Motherboard and Processor for 4K Video
The motherboard is the heart of your computer. While huge performance increases are unlikely to be gained from different models, it’s important to have the right specifications for your requirements, along with an appropriate socket for your processor. Also when picking a motherboard, be sure to go for one that can easily be upgraded. This way, as technology continues to change you will not always have to buy a new motherboard, you can easily swap out the processor or RAM for another one.
To edit 4k videos smoothly, you definitely need more processors, the more processors you have, the better results you will get. Rather than purchasing on the giant individual core, it is best you go for more cores. I have always love Intel but this time I go with AMD. I recommend the AMD Ryzen 5 1500X CPU bundled with an Asus motherboard.
While this is not a top of the range CPU, its 4 cores and 8 threads running at 3.5GHz are more than enough for most editing tasks. Throw in the 65-watt power consumption and you’re on to a real winner.
If you feel like splashing out, you can plump for the Ryzen 7, but it’s not necessary for all but the most demanding of tasks.
The bundled Asus ROG STRIX B350-F motherboard is another solid performer. It can handle up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM, comes with PCIe 3.0 and USB 3.1, and supports M.2 SSDs, for some super fast storage!
RAM for PC Building
Now that you’ve invested on a good motherboard and processor, its time to get a good amount of RAM. RAM has a primary role to play when it comes to editing 4k videos. The motherboard supports DDR4 at speeds of up to 2,666MHz — and that’s before overclocking.
16GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM is suitable. Go ahead and upgrade to 32GB if you can afford it, but don’t drop down to 8GB, especially if you intend on editing 4K video.
I generally recommend purchasing a single 16GB RAM, this way you have more RAM slots for upgrade, dont go for 2 8GB ram to make up 16GB.
Hard Drives and SSDs for Storage
In the case with Hard Drives, there are very cheap but slow, really slow. M.2 NVME SSDs are some of the fastest SSDs you can buy. While Samsung 960 series are considered king, they are very expensive, and will really eat into your budget.
The Western Digital 512GB NVME SSD is blazingly fast and doesn’t break the bank either. You can always upgrade later or use a NAS such as the TerraMaster F2-220 if you require more storage.
Graphics Card for PC Building
The graphics card is a pretty essential part of your editing rig. While you may not notice it when cutting and grading, you’ll really notice it when rendering or when working on compositions in After Effects such as motion tracking text.
The EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is a solid performer, with 4GB of GDDR5 RAM. Just like the rest of the components, this isn’t the fastest card available — you could splash out on a 1070 or 1080 instead, but those will certainly eat into your $1,000 budget.
Finally, throw in a case such as the Corsair Carbide Series, and you’re good to go!
